This is for James and "Unknown" Who say Wood planks, or more specifically Oak planks are Minecrafts best block. Similar to the hopper this is a very good point to prove.
Below is a picture of what Oak Wood Planks look like in todays version (1.15.2)
Oak planks are one of Minecrafts oldest blocks, they were the first of the now 8 types of wood we have. They may be the oldest, but they will always be the best. With oak wood alone you can make some amazing builds, most players first houses in Minecraft will be made from a collection of Dirt, Cobblestone and Wood/Wood planks. If you're really determined however, you will aim to make it entirely of wood.
Below is a picture of Minecraft 0.1.0 made in 2011, as you can see Oak Trees and planks are visible.
Whats better about it is its so easy to obtain. All you have to do is punch a tree, or use the right tool. And you get a piece of wood, sure you're always guaranteed to get only 1 piece of wood from each wood block you break no matter what but each Wood block gives you 4 planks. Making it easy to mass produce them.
Below is a picture of the main source of Oak Wood, and Oak Tree
While there are 6 Crafting recipes that use ONLY Planks, there's 27 recipes that use Planks of any kind. Oak wood alone can be found in 5 of 22 Naturally generated structures, making it also the most common.
Below is a picture of Oak wood that can be found in a mineshaft
Overall I give Oak Planks:
Affordability 4.5/5 While it is free, you have to go through the effort of chopping down a tree to get the wood and craft the wood to planks.
Usefulness 5/5 Along with all other types of wood, its the starting point of the game, and while it is possible to beat the game without it, It's impossible to have fun without it.
Looks 4/5 Maybe an update to make it look more like Oak wood planks IRL. Maybe make it look different on each side?
Is it Minecrafts best block? No but still really good.

This one is for Samuel C who said Hoppers were minecrafts best block. Which in all seriousnees might be true, Hoppers are the foundation of automatic farms. or just some farms in general, as without them, your items would just disappear, but not with hoppers. They collect your items and can easily transport them from hopper to hopper, chest to chest, even dimension to dimension!
Below is an example of Inter-dimensional redstone
Thanks to inter dimensional redstone, you can now have a Zombie pigman farm going on and delivering gold nuggets straight through the nether portal and into your chests in your base! Hoppers are very expendable, as you can go from having a line of hoppers, to a single hopper in a minecart picking up your items from up to 16 blocks without slowing down.
Above is the crafting Recipe for Hoppers
The hopper is also very affordable, as all you need is a single chest, as well as 5 iron, to me it would make more sense if it was 5 iron blocks as the texture and thickness of the block is similar to that of the anvil which uses 3.4 iron blocks. But in that scenario it would be too expensive, so im glad it is as cheap as it is. With hoppers you can easily transport items from base to base, create sorting systems that only need a pile of junk to sort it into your giant room of chests, each chest tailored to a specific block. They can also be used to lock doors, and create machines that need a certain item to be used.
I think Samuel is onto something here, however my favourite block is still the Noteblock.
Before hoppers, farms were relying on players to collect the items they produced, meaning players would just stand in one place for hours upon hours without moving, just to make sure their crops were collected, so the hopper definitely revolutionized the farming industry in minecraft, as well as so much more.
I give Hoppers a:
Affordability: 4.5/5 Its the fact that it's too cheap, making them easy to mass produce.
Usefulness: 5/5 There is nothing else i can imagine this being used for that it isn't used for already
Looks: 4/5 I feel as they could slightly be improved, maybe a bit more detail in the connector part. Otherwise it looks amazing!
Is it Minecrafts best block? Just Maybe...

Is it Minecrafts best block? Just Maybe...
This one is for Max Nener who said Rubys are minecrafts best block, although in this case it would be minecrafts best block to ever exist, as it is no longer a part of the Java edition. It has moved on/originated to being one of the In-game currencies of Minecraft Earth, now i admire Mojangs thoughts into employing a new type of currency into the Minecraft Universe, as i can imagine some people would've found it frustrating to see emeralds as a currency, as it is already used as one to trade with villagers in Vanilla Minecraft.
Below is a blurry image of Minecraft Earths in game shop where you can buy Rubies
Although it does have me wondering, had they kept the block in Minecraft Java, what would its used be, as while it was in the game, it was more of a decoration item/block then anything else. Tools for it were never made, uses for it never existed outside of Minecraft Earth, it makes me wonder what they could have done for it. Maybe make new types of villagers that only trade with Ruby, although depending on the difficulty of finding these Ruby's, some people might be disappointed.
Another possibility is the employment of Ruby tools and armour, but the question stands, where would it be placed in the ranking system? Would it be better then diamond? More lasting then gold? Easier to craft then leather? Well on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, it is a 9/10 (10 Being diamond and carbonado) So no, it would not be stronger then diamond BUT it is nearly 2 times stronger than iron so maybe close, but no cigar.
Below is a picture of most of the Moh scale ( This picture contains Gold, iron, Ruby and Diamond.)
Overall i give Rubys a:
Affordability 1.5/5 As they can cost literal money to obtain, that as well as hard to find.
Usefullness: Minecraft Earth 4.5/5 Very useful, used to speed up any task, exchange for certain things, and also used to purchse ruby exclusive items. But they are a bit stingy with it and the prices.
Minecraft Java 1/5 Apart from a decoration block i see no use for it.
Looks 2/5 It looks nice, but too similar to the re-color of the emerald block.
Is it Minecrafts best block? NO!

This one is for Darcy who said the Dirt Grass block is the best in the game, while i appreciate you giving me your opinion and respect it highly, im going to have to disagree with you.
Although it was one of the first two blocks in the game, along with cobblestone. It was not always as what you may see when u look at the minecraft icon. in the very first version of the game, the block you're referring to might've has well been named just grass, because that's exactly what it was, just grass, no dirt. Although it is minecrafts most iconic block, it is also minecrafts most changed block.
The above statement is taken directly from the official minecraft website
Another reason i have to disagree with you is because of its commonalty. It is found nearly everywhere in the game and only has 3 variants, this is dismal compared to some of the other blocks in minecraft, such as wood, and stone. It is also very weak, most likely the weakest in the game, and it poses no benefits as to when you break it, not with your hands, tools. Not even enchanted ones at that, all it is and ever will be. is dirt. And that is why i disagree with you.
The below picture is what the Minecraft loading screen sued to look like, mainly consisting of Cobble stone and it's relative, Stone.
Although you are correct, it is the logo for the game, but cobblestone was also for a bit, cobblestone could be found in minecrafts old title text and logo as well. And as it is much less common, as it requires you to do some digging, or exploring at the least, it is much stronger and has many more variants and relatives it can me smelt into and crafted into. Using cobblestone as a main resource, you can craft over 12 different blocks, but with dirt, all you can make. is dirt.
The above picture is an example of what Grass dirt blocks used to look like, just Grass
Overall i give Grass Dirt block a:
Affordability: 5/5 Considering it is quite literally free and can easily be obtained.
Usefulness: .5/5 Hold your horses thats a POINT 5. Half of 1, it only gets it because its an easily accessible structure block, and if we are all honest, we have all built a dirt house.
Looks: 3/5 It has bland, but iconic look to it, as it definitely has changed over the years.
Is it Minecrafts best block? DEFINITELY NOT UNDER 0 CIRCUMSTANCES HAS IT AND WILL EVER BE! understood? ^U^
